Migrant Intake into Australia - Productivity Commission Submission by John Roles, Queensland

The policy and position of Australian government with respect to population issues is the most influential factor likely to impact on Australia’s future sustainability and hence the prosperity of current and future citizens. Because of the bipartisan government position on population/immigration numbers it is all but impossible to engender an effective public debate on these issues. I therefore welcome this opportunity created by the Productivity Commission to have this debate in a manner that is untarnished by vested interests and scaremongering about perceived xenophobia.

Joe Hockey is Australia's Marie-Antoinette on Housing and Employment

Some recent comments reproduced here. Please contribute more. Joe Hockey seems like a nice guy, an intelligent guy, but he's just too rich to be really useful to anyone who isn't. He reminds me of Marie-Antoinette, a foreign princess who didn't want to try to understand the problems of the people and her husband. People look back and say, "How could she be so silly? Couldn't she see that the people were angry and desperate?" But, you know, she had other priorities.

Ukraine: media lies

Obama says G7 to discuss Russian aggression in Ukraine (7/6/15) | Reuters

Contrary to what is implied by the article's headline, its content does not explicitly claim that Russia is guilty of aggression against Ukraine, let alone provide proof. Rather than making such a claim, the content of the article merely reports President Barack Obama's utterances about the Ukraine conflict:

U.S. President Barack Obama said ... that leaders would discuss how to stand up to Russia's "aggression" in Ukraine ...

Note the quote marks around the word "aggression". It's as if 'reporters' Noah Barkin, Michelle Martin and Paul Carrel did not want to be seen, by more conscionable readers, to be personally endorsing the lies coming out of Obama's mouth. It's unfortunate that they 'neglected' to also include quote marks in the heading. The above lie is repeated, coming directly out out of President Obama's own mouth, in the next paragraph:

China, Yulin : Campaign against criminal institutionalised cruelty to dogs who are often stolen pets

Most of these animals are stolen pets. All Chinese are not cruel, but this festival provides an economic excuse for the cruelest of thefts and practices, which many Chinese want ended: Open letter from Animal activist, Chantal Buslot: An animal rights lawyer in Beijing said that official claims that all dogs slaughtered for the Chinese Dog Meat Festival are bred by local dog farmers is false. Xiang said according to research there are no such farms and that all dogs are abducted from the streets. (http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/china-dog-meat-festival-2014-10000-dogs-be-slaughtered-yulin-summer-solstice-celebration-1451869) It is thought most dogs are pets or strays abducted from streets. Vendors then buy them for nine yuan (85p) and sell them for 25 yuan. People who steal the dogs make the biggest profits of all, the news agency said.

Russian BUK missile maker on MH17 shooting says Ukraine still has that kind of missile, but not Russia

Almaz-Antey, a Russian manufacturer of Buk missiles and Russia's main air-defense manufacturer has begun its own investigations into the MH17 affair, where a Malaysian air flight was downed over war-torn East Ukraine. Since this tragedy, NATO supporters have accused Russia of being the owner of a BUK missile which some believe may have been the thing that brought the Flight MH17 passenger aircraft down. Russians have responded by suggesting that if a missile was involved, it was probably a Ukrainian missile fired from East Ukraine when it was under Kiev military control. Although there are other theories, including one that another aircraft may have fired on MH17, the missile manufacturer itself is now trying to conduct its own investigation in order to have sanctions against it lifted. According to Almaz-Antey, missile manufacturers, the missile that likely struck the Boeing aircraft, 9M38-M1, was not produced in the Russian Federation since 1999, but they have evidence that the BUK-M1 air defense missile system and accompanying missiles were still deployed with the Ukrainian Armed Forces in 2005. According to their evidence, Ukraine had a total of 991 9M38M1 missiles at the time.

A David standing up to a Multicultural Goliath?

Update: See note [1] on where candobetter.net's values differ from those apparent on Party for Freedom site. John Ajaka, the NSW Minister for Multiculturalism's indignation at Nick Folkes's (Party for Freedom)[1] protests against foreign property ownership in Australia would ring truer if Ajaka distanced multiculturalism from the billion dollar property development growth lobby that has captured the multicultural tag. See Background on the Australian Multicultural Foundation. Instead he sounds like a hypocrite attacking an Australian who tries to stand up to this Goliath.[2] Unfortunately multiculturalism has become code for mass migration and a political shield for a powerful global network of engineers, banks and financiers, property developers, government departments and academic propagandists, represented by numerous peak bodies of which the Property Council of Australia is probably foremost. The Fairfax and Murdoch Press are members of this growth lobby with strong vested interests in their own huge property dot coms, realestate.com.au and domain.com.au. The major political parties are similarly invested, with the Labor Party's stake best known, but it is no Robinson Crusoe.

Question David Kilcullen's war message: Letter to Geraldine Doogue from Susan Dirgham, AMRIS

In Geraldine Doogue's interview with war strategist David Kilcullen on ABC's Saturday Extra (Blood Year, 23 May 2015), there was every sign that Ms Doogue accepted his point of view without question despite his being someone who works closely with the deadly U.S. war machine in Iraq and the region. Yes, Kilcullen is an ‘expert’ in that he has spent time in the ME and he has studied terrorism. He is eloquent. He is personable. He is an Aussie: he seems calm and reasonable. But in his work for the U.S. military, what truths does he omit, what ‘facts’ does he invent?

Owls' legal case and plans to burn Victoria's native forests for fuel

The protection of owls might soon go to the Supreme Court and a proposed regulatory change will allow native forest wood to be burnt for electricity. It was been tabled in the House of Reps today, 27 May 2015. There is a danger that Bill Shorten's Labor Party might support the bill, despite what that says about our renewable energy scheme. Read on to find out how we might fight this.

Open letter to Canberra public objects to kangaroo cull

Nobel laureate J.M. Coetzee is one of fifty well-known authors and scientists who have signed this open letter to the Canberra public protesting the mass killing of kangaroos which has been taking place annually for some time in Canberra. For those interested in the history of this annual slaughter, Candobetter.net has published at length on this subject here: http://candobetter.net/SaveTheKangaroo. It is wonderful that a number of influential people have now put their names on the line to defend kangaroos from slaughter and kangaroo science from ideology. Many more people are also against this absurd and cruel practice. [Candobetter.net Editor: Republished from http://www.beautifulwild.com/. Also available here: http://www.arcohab.org/#!letter/c1yzj. The Fall of Palmyra: The Result of US-Coalition Ramping up Aid to Extremists - Article by Steven Chovanec

News reports have begun to come in about the fall of Palmyra to ISIS in Syria, and while most Western media has rightly been concerned with the city’s ancient ruins, few mentions have been given to the welfare of the people living in the region, or the fact that “The Syrian army launched a massive operation to evacuate as many civilians as possible of the city’s 100,000 inhabitants before its epic defeat.” (Debkafile, May 20, 2015). About Hillary Clinton

In the video embedded below,
Hillary Clinton bursts out into
laughter after her fellow inter-
viewee says, "then we ought
to take [Iran] out" - Feb 2012

Hillary Clinton is not a liberal - no more than Bill Clinton was a liberal - these people have absolutely no moral compass or political principles. They are opportunists of the worst kind - they are virtual psychopaths who will do anything and say anything in order to obtain power. Hillary Clinton was a "goldwater girl" back in 1964 - she was a right-wing Republican. But when she found it more convenient to pretend to be a liberal in order to obtain power, then she pretended to be a liberal. But make no mistake - the Clintons have NO principles at all.  1

There Will Be No Saudi Inspection of This Ship! Message from Caleb Maupin onboard the"Iran Shahed"

See inside for other stories about Iranian vessel with relief supplies.

Iran has sent an aid vessel to carry emergency supplies to the people of Yemen who have been illegally invaded and attacked by Saudi Arabia - an ally of the US, of Israel, and of Australia. The situation is explosive - locally and globally. The people are starving. Therefore people on the aid ship are trying to make sure that the world knows that this is a ship bringing help, and should be given safe passage. One such person is Caleb Maupin, who emailed several people on Mon, 18 May 2015 16:55:48 +0430 with the following message:

"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is mercilessly slaughtering people in Yemen, has absolutely no right to inspect this vessel. Neither does the United States of America or Israel. The Iranian government has made that absolutely clear, and all of us in the delegation of peace activists from Germany, France, and the United States absolutely agree with this decision. An inspection from the United Nations or the International Red Cross/Red Crescent Society would absolutely be permitted and welcomed. These are international bodies delegated for such tasks. However, allowing an inspection of this ship from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia would recognize that somehow the people of Yemen are the property of the Saudis, which they are not. Yemenis are fighting and dying to assert this fact each day.

Concerns re horse welfare at Echuca sales yard - Article by Tori Kiss

I want to bring attention to a place many horse people are quite familiar with, the Echuca horse sales. Over the years hundreds of horses have gone through the sales in hopes of finding a forever home. Though this may give horses a second chance it doesn't change the fact that the condition some of these horses come to the yards in is appalling. Eight Problems with Amnesty International’s Report on Aleppo Syria - by Rick Sterling

Editor's introduction: Whilst Amnesty International attracts many well-intentioned people, young and old, the organisation has a disturbing record of taking sides and pushing propaganda that actually benefits the US/NATO war machines and their take-over bids in the Middle East. This side-taking has damped down international critical analysis that might have saved Iraq and Libya from total destruction and which might still save millions of innocent Syrians from having their civilisation erased from the map. Rick Sterling's article, which sets out Amnesty International's record in the Middle East, is a lesson to those who don't look carefully into brand labels, because unfortunately, Amnesty International looks more and more a brand label - but what is it actually selling? Your careful reading of the article inside could make a difference to world peace, currently teetering in the Middle East. - Candobetter.net Editor.

US has failed across the board in Afghanistan

Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, a former Chief of Staff to former secretary of state, Colin Powell, says that the US government’s aspiration of turning Afghanistan into a stable place is nonsense. Only third parties, who are interested in stability, can resolve the problem, he says.

“The best we can hope for is that those powers – India, China, Pakistan primarily, but Iran too, and other powers with dog in a fight, Turkey for example – need to handle this situation on their own merits,” he said. “They’ve got a critical interest in the stability or near stability in Afghanistan.” Article originally published with videos at RT at http://rt.com/news/usa-afghanistan-war-expensive-337/

Sister Diana Momeka

The US State Department has been criticized for its move to deny a visa to an Iraqi Christian nun planning to reveal ISIL atrocities to Congress.

Sister Diana Momeka was part of an Iraqi delegation that was scheduled to testify before the House and Senate Foreign Relations Committee later this month.

Momeka has been a frank supporter for the Christians who have been killed and deported by the ISIL 1  terrorist group.

Government says these measures will strengthen the integrity of the foreign investment framework

The Coalition Government today announced that it is taking action to strengthen the integrity of our foreign investment framework.

The Government recognises that foreign capital is vital to help grow our economy and provide jobs. In the case of residential real estate, the current foreign investment regime aims to channel foreign investment into new homes for Australians to purchase or rent.

Ankara, SANA – Unions, civil society organizations, and political parties in Turkey organized a protest in Taksim area in Istanbul on Friday to express solidarity with the Syrian people and to denounce the support provided to terrorists by Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Justice and Development Party government.

The protestors rallied in front of Galatasaray School in Taksim area, denouncing the terrorist organization Jabhet al-Nusra and the government of the Justice and Development Party.

Speeches delivered during the protest held the Justice and Development Party responsible for the massacres committed against Syrian people, calling for stopping all the military and logistic support provided by the Party to ISIS, Jabhet al-Nusra, and ISIS terrorists.

What’s really going on with ISIS in Yarmouk Refugee Camp Syria? By Father Dave

"Yarmouk is only a few kilometres south of Damascus. It was once a thriving centre of colour and life with a vibrant market that made it much more than just a Palestinian enclave. Over the last four years though it has been the centre of so much violence and death that it is now the most festering wound on the ailing Syrian body. And perhaps the most tragic dimension of Yarmouk at the moment is the way the suffering of these people is being manipulated to provide a new rationale for Western military intervention."

"Pensioners reject forced reverse mortgages" - Pensioners & Superannuants Assoc (CPSA)

Monday, 27 April 2015

“The suggestion by the Centre for Independent Studies[1] that the family home should be included in the pension asset test and be reverse mortgaged for an income stream would cost pensioners dearly,” said Manager, Research and Advocacy, Amelia Christie.

“Forcing pensioners to take out reverse mortgages in order to put food on the table is both heartless and poor policy – the only winners would be the banks.

Global call to help the oppressed people of Yemen - International Campaign of "The breeze of Mercy"

Update (4/5/15): Yemeni army, Popular Committees thwart Saudi naval attack on Aden | PressTV

After the Saudi aggression on Yemen and the aerial bombardment campaign on its different regions, more than 2600 innocent lives have been lost, most of who are women, children and the elderly. The silence of the world on such an atrocity is heart breaking to say the least. To add to this, more than 4000 people have been injured who cannot receive medical treatment due to the lack of supplies in this poverty stricken country.

Syria voices condemnation of Armenian Genocide, likens it to terrorist crimes nowadays

Previously published (23/3/15) on SANA.

23 April? 2015

Yerevan, SANA – Syria expressed on Thursday at a global forum its condemnation of the genocide which the Ottoman Turks committed against the Armenian people in 1915.

The global forum "Against the Crime of Genocide" was held in the Armenian capital Yerevan commemorating the Centennial of the well-known genocide, which is marked on April 24 every year.

Delivering Syria's speech, Speaker of the People's Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham said history will not forgive those "who didn't learn the lessons of wars on other peoples."

Kelvin Thomson: Intergenerational equity - How we are failing future generations - Speech to Protectors of Public Lands Vic

Video and text inside: Recently the Federal Government released another Intergenerational Report. It would be easy to dismiss it as a political stunt. After all the well-known scientist they got to spruik it, Dr Karl Kruszelnicki, has now done just that, correctly lambasting it for its failure to talk about climate change. Any discussion about the future which leaves out climate change is farcical.

And these Reports, first commissioned by Peter Costello, are absolutely a Trojan Horse for the right wing agenda of winding back the social contract, dismantling the benefits achieved in Australia with a lot of blood, sweat and tears over many years, in health, education, and retirement incomes, which make Australia one of the best countries in the world to live in. They run a scare campaign about population ageing designed to convince us that our health, education and retirement incomes systems are not sustainable. Speech by the Hon. Kelvin Thomson, Federal Member for Wills, to the Protectors of Public Lands Annual General Meeting Saturday 18 April 2015
