THE GREENS AND THEIR PRIORITIES

This from the Global Greens Climate Action Plan, prepared for the Sao Paolo conference in May of 2008, of which Elizabeth May, Canadian Green Party leader, was the keynote speaker: environmental migration Project Abstract: Although our priority is to prevent global warming, we must also prepare for the case that the actions are not sufficient to prevent large areas of the globe to be increasingly less inhabitable. The actions on the part of the Greens is then to use influence to receive environmental migrants with compassion rather than to close borders for nationalist reasons. QUESTION FOR THE GREENS: What about closing our border for ECOLOGICAL reasons? Al Gore said that in the Shanghai conurbation alone 40 million people would be displaced by rising sea levels. Multiply that by ten, twenty or a hundred across the world. Are the Greens saying that Canada or Australia has the carrying capacity to take them in? Do the Greens budget any compassion for the people already living in Canada and Australia suffering from overcrowding, unaffordable housing, lost farmland, water shortages, pollution etc.? And as an “environmental party” do they allot any compassion for the wildlife who will be surely exterminated by this human invasion? Do they think that a bloated human population in North America and Australia can survive without biodiversity services? The truth is, the Greens are not an environmental party. They are a party focused on Human Rights. The rights of humans living in another country, and certainly not the wildlife living in our own country. What a joke. Except I am not laughing.
