When violence is reported in the Australian mainstream media, rarely is ethnicity mentioned, due to a self-policing media code of conduct that is premised on claims the reporting of ethnicity risks inciting racism. The Australian Journalists Association code of conduct on this reads:
"2. Do not place unnecessary emphasis on personal characteristics, including race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, age, sexual orientation, family relationships, religious belief, or physical or intellectual disability."
This seems sensible in order to prevent prejudiced reporting and inciting racism. However, this code has been recently abandoned by the mainstream media in the cases of recent violence against Indian students, probably in an attempt to highlight the particular racial problem. But indeed, the media highlighting of this problem has snowballed into an international political hot potato, resulting in Australia's Prime Minister flying to India and consequential increased policing in Melbourne and funding to deal with the problem. As a result, there has been a notable reduction in reported violence against Indian students in Melbourne. Politicians were embarrased into dealing with the problem, that the Department of Immigration had left to fester.
But otherwise reporting of ethnicity and race is suppressed. Read any report in an Australian newspaper about a violent incident and find mention of ethnicity or race obvious by omission. This is not to say that most violence in Australia has ethnic causes, but there is a lot that is yet remains suppressed from the mainstream public. the frequency of the problem is of course known to police and to the locals that live in what have become 'psuedo' ethnic ghettos.
And so Australia's problem of ethnic tension is suppressed and allowed to fester until someone dies. The death last night of a man at Mirrabooka in Perth's inner north is a case in point.
The news item in The Australian Newspaper today reads:
"ONE man is dead and another is in a critical condition after a street brawl in Perth.
About 10pm (WST) yesterday police were called to Mirrabooka in the city's north where about 20 young men were fighting in the street with sticks and other weapons. They found two men seriously injured at the scene, a police spokesman said. One man later died and the other remains in a critical condition in hospital.
The area has been cordoned off and a crime scene established."
What the newspaper does not report is the fact that it was a fight between recent migrants from war torn countries. A Sudanese man was stabbed to death during a brawl between ethnic groups. Police and the Tactical Reponse Group later raided a house in nearby suburb of Ballajura and arrested five men, believed to be from Afghanistan.
Mirrabooka is a low socio-economic suburb in Perth's north. It has long had an high Aboriginal population, but recently many east African migrants, mainly from Somalia, Sudan and more recently Afghanistan have settled there. Why, is a matter for social research.
The following non-mainstream media sources reveals somne insight into the social problems at Mirrabooka:
"Once again after more than a year of just letting this one go I have put back the "Avoid Mirrabooka" and added the ethnic (African and Aboriginal) gang terms back in to this article. If this American tourist had of known about aboriginal gangs at Mirrabooka bus station, it's probable he would have been able to avoid the situation he found him self in and not ended up looking like this.
Also I have added a newer trend in that more buses now are coming under attacks by Aboriginal youths throwing rocks as well as a general increase in assaults on Perth buses.
Look this is not meant to be racist in anyway but rather used as a way of identifying people who may be of potential danger to a tourist similar to the Hungarian article about avoiding gypsies. Gangs of white and Asian youths also exist in Perth but these gangs tend to fight among them self and generally avoid effecting wider society. Aboriginal people in particular have many social problems that are generally no fault of their own but rather caused by the society and groups of people that they are forced to live around. Most of these problems with aboriginal and African gangs are a direct result of government mismanagement of the needs of these people and aboriginal and african people see public transport as just another government body and so it's natural that they would vent some of their frustration out in these areas.
Seeing as one of my recent edits was edited out, can we discuss race/safety issues a little bit here to get some sort of agreement?
Someone keeps putting in a section saying visitors should avoid areas like WSBS and Mirrabooka where "African" and Aboriginal people are fighting turf warfare, or some such argument. Me, I've never seen or heard of this problem anywhere - not read about it nor experienced it personally. So I deleted it and recommend it stays that way.
On the other hand, I have personally experienced problems with Aboriginal people demanding money and cigarettes. I have got out of various scrapes in various places with by just stopping and having a chat, but this never seems to work here. A number of my acquaintances have had similar experiences, so I do strongly recommend avoiding contact with Aboriginal people on the street, unless you have appropriate cultural knowledge. (I don't really want to get into an argument about why this is the case, because there are clearly very big problems that I don't have answers to)."
I've lived in Mirrabooka, 2 break ins in a year, one of the break ins was a midnight one and the aboriginal kid that did it went straight for our vcr, pull the vcr forcefully such that it snapped the power cable from the back of it, and got away with a vcr without a power cable just before my dad woke up to the noise in the middle of the night. 4/10.
Dianella on alexander drive, graffiti sprayed onto our front wall at least once a year, burglaries probably once every 2 years, once had someone walk into our house and steal my mums bag and my wallet because we leave them on a bench at home, because we stupidly left the back door unlocked while we were both home and this was in the evening just after dinner time too.
Nedlands, no issues at all in the 6 years we were there."
Somali crime wave
"Although there are only about 3,500 Somalis in Perth, they are responsible for a mini crime wave. Numerous violent crimes committed by Somalis have hit the headlines over the past three years.
The Somalis have introduced violent car-jacking to Perth. The perpetrators, mostly with links to the African Kings, a dangerous criminal gang, have carried out a series of violent carjackings, assaults and robberies. Some examples:
Somali refugee Abdirak Mohmd Hassan was jailed for seven years after being convicted in the Supreme Court of Western Australia on 28 May 2004 over a series of violent carjackings, including two knife-point attacks committed between October 13 and 25, 2002. In sentencing, Justice McKechnie said Hassan's carjacking crimes indicated a disturbing pattern of criminality "largely alien to our society".
Then in August 2005, Hassan again faced a Supreme Court trial over another violent carjacking. The victim, a young student feared she was going to die after the car she was driving was hijacked by Hassan and another Somali.
Somali refugee Dhaqane Alim, 19, pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court of Western Australia on 6 February 2004 to charge of armed robbery with violence in company. The court was told that on 20 May 2003 Alim and two co-offenders followed the victim from the Burswood train station before mugging him. Alim's co-offender, Jye Horton, who also faces an armed robbery charge, threatened the victim with a 15 cm knife while Alim grabbed the man's arms and rifled through his pockets, stealing a mobile phone and a wallet. The court was also told that Alim was a member of the African Kings street gang.
On 22 March 2004 five men were taken to hospital after a violent clash between Somali and Aboriginal groups armed with knives and clubs in Perth's Northbridge area. One Aboriginal man received seven stab wounds and a suspected punctured lung after being attacked by a group of Somali men."
Police were called to break up a violent brawl between a large number of Africans and Aboriginals in the Perth suburb of Mirrabooka on 27 December 2005. Police Commissioner O'Callaghan said police were called out 14 times in the last 12 months to similar brawls between Africans and Aboriginals."
Immigration does not stop at the international arrival gate. Australia's policy of immigration needs to extend well into assimilation after many years and subsequent generations, else we will see more ghettos like Mirrabooka, and more ethnic tension and violence, fuelled by a policy of media news suppression.
Why suppress ethnic tension and violence when to do so does nothing but allow it to fester into murder and social division?
Rudd living in a gated community remains blissfully ignorant at Australia's expense. he has become an arrogant social menace undermining Australia's security.

State housing in Mirrabooka

Spin is worse than open rejection of Australian values
Scott,
Your quote from local council..."...an area that celebrates its diversity through its social connectedness and activities, is a welcome open safe environment and is enhanced by local parks, managed bushland and 'green' streetscapes. It has a community that respects differences and one that is proud of their area."
And the propaganda is 'Social Housing'.
This is despicable deceptive spin to cloak what is government organised concentrated migrant settlement of Mirrabooka. Some right-wingers with 'eugenics' leniencies in Australia's inner Immigration policy bureau have selected Mirrabooka as a convenient test waste site for troubled male immigrants of war-torn Somalia, Sudan and Afghanistan.
This is now exposed lads!
'Mirrabooka' sounds like an Aboriginal word. So what do the local Aborigines think of this mass of Africans and Afghans being trust on them?
Is this Bartlett's immigrant refuse tip?
The City of Stirling's vision for Mirrabooka is to dislocate locals for immigrants.
Mirrabooka may as well be dubbed New Kandahar or New Bangalore.
Rudd has become a traitor to Australia.

Holding on after all hope lost: Herald comparing John Untan case
A Sydney Morning Herald journalist has written a current article linking the criminal "case of Tongan born Motekiai Taufahema, convicted of manslaughter over the 2002 death of policeman Glenn McEnallay, but allowed to remain...(in Australia)."
This journalist links this case to his article about the demise of Romanian-born John Untan who last November attempted suicide in London from "atop London's Westminster Bridge" into the Thames.
The full article is worth reading, and so I have extracted it below (quoted).
My comments:
This journalist's comparison between the two case is inappropriate in many ways.
* My argument that foreign nationals received by Australia on trust and gaining Australian residency, then convicted of serious crimes in Australia is one that deserves questioning as to whether they deserve a right to remain in Australia in gaol at Australian taxpayer expense;
* My argument that the Australian Government establish a bilateral agreement to repatriate Australians convicted of crimes to serve out their sentences in Australia and for foreign nationals vice versa - deserves public debate;
* The murder of an Australian policemen in Sydney by Tongan national Sione Penisini in 2022 should see Penisini not have his sentence committed in Australian gaols but rightly repatriated to his origin country, Tonga, to serve time at Tongan taxpayer expense, same with the three accomplices including Taufahema. These four men have breached their moral and legal obligations to Australia an so forfeit their residency and citizenship rights.
* Any children born in Australia are Australians - end of story.
* John Ultan, a Romanian national, was granted Australian residency and then committed serious criminal acts in Australia. Why should Ultan be considered different to Penisini?
* The abject poverty of Romania, Ultan's country of origin, is not Australia's responsibility. He remains ultimately the responsibility of the Romanian Government and its people, but also that of the European Union (since Romania is technically European), the United Nations (of which Australia is a member nation) and of the Russian Federation particularly since it contributed to economic demise of Romania while for decades under Soviet rule.
* Ultan was Australia;s responsibility while in Australia, until he committed serious crimes in Australia
* The plight of Jon Ultan was after having served his sentence, was negligently ignored by the governments of each nation he resided in - indeed including Australia, Romania and the United Kingdom. This is despicable.
* When an innocent person in need is ignored and allowed to become destitute by the government of that country, that country's humanitarian credentials need to be internationally paraded in shame.
* The plight of the convicted needs to be measured and compared with the greater
rights of their victims, like Glenn McEnally and his family, friends, colleagues and associates.
* No-one has a right to take a life. Such persons, convicted, forgo all citizen rights including citizenship and residency.
This is the article by journalist Joel Gibson:
'Holding on after all hope lost'
[24th April, 2010]
'The millions who saw Ion ''John'' Untan attempt suicide never knew the deportation story behind his pain, writes Joel Gibson.
FOR FIVE interminable hours, Ion ''John'' Untan stood atop London's Westminster Bridge and stared into the frigid River Thames.
As Big Ben struck four, the hour he had chosen to die, hundreds of gawkers, media, police and rescue service crew saw him take the leap. His suicide attempt received broad coverage on British TV and news websites in November. But the millions who saw it never learnt what drove the 48-year-old father of three to despair.
''I didn't want to tell anybody my problems,'' he said this week. ''I had just had enough, you know what I mean? Some days I just wake up and I have had enough.''
Untan today in a London squat. Photo: Jon Enoch
The Romanian-born Untan was tortured as a political prisoner and escaped to Australia in 1984, aged 23.
He married Karen Uebel, an Australian citizen, two years later and they had one happy year and a set of twins together before his slide into crime began.
With a handful of other Romanian migrants, he got involved in the lucrative drug trade on the Golden Mile in Kings Cross in 1988, selling heroin and paying off crooked cops such as disgraced detective Graham ''Chook'' Fowler for the privilege.
He was jailed for 5½ years for drug and firearms charges in 1989. By late 1997, he was back inside after a failed armed robbery attempt on a suburban home he claimed was owned by fellow dealers.
Untan had three months with his family after completing his sentences - just enough time, Karen says, to re-establish a bond with his three children. But he had never taken up citizenship, so the then immigration minister, Philip Ruddock, cancelled his refugee visa. He was deported to Romania in 2003.
In an interview with officials, Untan accused Mr Ruddock of ''ruining people's lives and separating families'' to win votes and threatened to shoot him. Untan's 15-year-old son, Joshua, wrote to the prime minister, John Howard, saying his father was ''more Australian than most people'' and it was the saddest day of his young life.
A psychologist, Raymond Hudd, warned his deportation would be ''tantamount to destroying the lives of his sons, his wife and his daughter because it is the thread of hope of re-establishing the family unit that holds the family together''.
He feared Untan would become dangerously suicidal and his sons' behaviour would become increasingly difficult for his wife to manage, ''which could negatively impact on her mental health''.
Most of those predictions came true. Today the 49-year-old is homeless on the streets of London because, he says, it is a better life than being homeless in Romania and his elderly mother could not support him.
When he can afford to, he calls his wife and children Joshua and Ionel, both 22, and Danica, 14, in the suburbs of Sydney. ''It's like their father's died but there's a ghost that's still there,'' said Karen Untan, who developed an anxiety disorder after being left to care for two intellectually disabled 15-year-old boys and a seven-year-old daughter.
She knows why some refer to character test deportations as ''taking out the trash'' and why they say her children are better off without a former Kings Cross crook in their lives.
The TV show Underbelly ''has glamorised it too much. There's no glamour in it. It's just people looking over their shoulder seeing if they are going to get shot,'' she says. ''But my husband is two people: the criminal who was a dumb-arse and the good dad. Even when I threw him out he still had a relationship with his children. He came and saw them all the time. My children became depressed after losing their father. They became detached from the world. What happened to them was very cruel.''
Eating breakfast at a soup kitchen in London's Canning Town this week, John Untan said it was the thought of seeing his family one more time that kept him alive.
''I have done many things wrong but who doesn't? I never went to school. I grew up poor. I learnt the streets. I learnt the hard way. That's why I got into crime. Other people do bigger crimes than I did. But I paid for everything. I did 10 years' prison. But to send me from my family forever, that's very hard. It still is. I think about it every day.''
His story follows revelations in the Herald about Scottish-born Andrew Moore, who lived 32 years in Australia and left behind a teenage son when he died of a heroin overdose two days after being deported in October. They illustrate the inconvenient truth about Australia's policy of deporting non-citizens who are sentenced to more than a year's jail. But for many, punishing criminals - and their families - twice by dumping them abroad is a small price to pay for public safety.
The policy is in the spotlight again with the case of Tongan-born Motekiai Taufahema, convicted of manslaughter over the 2002 death of policeman Glenn (McEnally), but allowed to remain for the sake of his six-year-old daughter. The federal government is under pressure to appeal the decision for a second time. It has until Wednesday to do so."

Convicted foreigners need to be automatically deported
At around 2:30am on 10th August, 2008, Irish backpacker David Keohane was viciously bashed to a brain dead pulp in Sydney's seaside tourist suburb of Coogee at the intersection of Brook and Kidman Street. I have walked past this location. It is just leafy suburban area a few streets back from the famous beach.
David was left in coma for seven months and his parents flew him back to Ireland in a coma. He is now confined to a wheelchair and his life changed forever.
Tongan Thomas Isaako is serving a 14-year jail sentence over the attack.
Today Tongan Kane Desmond Tupuolamoui was arrested in Darwin charged with David's bashing. Two other people have been charged with lesser offences in connection with the assault, probably of Tongan origin.
These violent thugs claim to be New Zealanders, but then New Zealand accepts many Tongan nationals who use New Zealand as a staging base to then migrate to Australia.
I can think of no reason why any foreigner in any country if convicted of serious crime should not be immediately deported to country of origin at the cost of the country of origin. Such ought to apply to convicted Tongan Thomas Isaako and to his co-accusers if found guilty.
New Zealand needs to start being accountable for its wave of violent immigrants instead of hand balling its ethic violence problems across the Tasman to Australia to deal with.
Tongan violence in Australia is a systemic ethnic problem. It is a problem in New Zealand and Australia. It deserves a special police task force and investigation.
Only Australians in Australian gaols!
Auto-deport foreign criminals now!
Empty our gaols of foreign criminals now!
