Good thing this country professes neither to keep kosher or halal, given the surplus of pork floating around.
The Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) "slammed the Howard Government's use of a key regional grants program, citing many examples of financial mismanagement and apparent pork-barrelling." [The Australian, 15 November]
AU$110-million spent in breach of the Government's own financial management rules. "Unacceptable standard of public administration"; "blatant breaches of
accountability"; "no-holds-barred electioneering."
Good thing Howard-and-Costello had a resource boom to finance their vote-buying, pork-barrelling schemes.
So - who are we going to trust with the economy? We'll see who gets roasted
on the barbie 24 November.
