liveability

"Liveability" (or "livability") is a term which has been frequently used by Australian political parties - notably the Australian Labor Party, particularly in Melbourne, Australia, to promote the idea that Australian cities are recognised as the best in the world. The term comes from the Economist, and it is really done from the point of view of a visitor to a country. Use of the term 'liveable' in Australia has often been an attempt to gaslight reaction to complaints from Australians who are under assault from population growth engineering and the associated forcing through of new infrastructure, infilling, and excessively high housing and rental prices.

"EIU" stands for "Economist's Intelligence Unit"

For qualitative variables, an “EIU rating” is awarded based on the judgement of in-house expert
country analysts and a field correspondent based in each city. For quantitative variables, a rating is
calculated based on the relative performance of a location using external data sources.
