Demonstration in Frankston, on behalf of Nature,
11:00am., Friday, July 30th, 2010
Everyone Welcome
Meet at Shannon Mall, Frankston (MEL 100a D7 and just down from the Frankston station) and walk with us to the office of Frankston MP Alistair Harkness. Bring your favourite environmental or political sign!
We will be presenting Mr. Harkness with an indigenous tree in honor of National Tree Day on Sunday. We will also to let him know we are very unhappy with him and the Labor Government that has failed in their duty to protect our natural environment. By failing their duty, they have endangered our children's future. A government that is not taking care of
our future is not the government we want.
We will be leaving some of our group at the Westerfield site so that we can return there if the bulldozers come, although we believe that Abigroup has a lot of work to do before they can even think about it. Unfortunately, the terrible environmental destruction continues elsewhere in the freeway right-of-way.
Walt Whitman, American Poet, had this to say in 1892:
After you have exhausted what there is in business, politics, conviviality. and so on - have found that none of these finally satisfy, or permanently wear - what remains? Nature remains.
But only if we save it now. Hope to see you at the picket any time you can make it, and on Friday at 11:00am.
