This is an article about the East-West tunnel proposed by Eddington and mentions that there is debate within the ALP about its merits. The interesting parts for us are quoted below.

Funny how population growth is presented as inevitable and unstoppable, when it is the same political party that is in power in the state and nationally that is potentially in control of all the levers of population policy.
