In his interview of one hour and 22 minutes, which is embedded within this article, Robert F. Kennedy Junior (@RobertKennedyJr), who is seeking to be the Democratic Party's candidate for the Presidential election on 5 November 2024, explained how he will end the war in Ukraine by ceasing the supply of US military aid to the Kiev regime, which so far, totals US$43 billion. Most of this military aid has turned into charred wreckage containing much of the flower of young Ukrainian manhood [1] in the east of Ukraine.
Whilst there is a lot said by Kennedy in that interview that I disagree with, I have taken into account the fact that this is being said in the midst of a difficult election campaign in which he is opposed by almost all of the political establishment and the corporate newsmedia. In the 1960 US Presidential candidate, which followed the defeat of Adlai Stevenson, the Democratic Party's 'peace candidate' in the 1956 presidential election, then Senator John F. Kennedy, RFK Junior's uncle, using a seemingly Macchiavellian tactic, falsely accused his opponent Vice-President Richard M. Nixon and President Eisenhower of having allowed the United States' stockpile of nuclear weapons fall behind that of the Soviet Union. This was labeled the 'missile gap'. [2]
That 'missile gap' falsehood allowed JFK to just win the election of November 1960, but, subsequently, during the Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962, contrary to that rhetoric, President JFK over-ruled the military Joint Chiefs-of Staff, who wanted to order a first strike nuclear attack against the Soviet Union.
… but RFK Junior is hostile to Iran and supports Israel?!
RFK Junior has shown that he shares his uncle's, and his father's strong, opposition to the United States' military-industrial complex and that, once inaugurated, will end the United States' wars in Syria, Yemen and Ukraine and end US meddling elsewhere. He, nevertheless has, on a number of occasions, contrary to this overall thrust, made statements in support of Israel and hostile to Iran. These hawkish statements against Iran should be evaluated within an understanding of JFK's 'missile gap' falsehood that helped him to narrowly win 1960 election campaign, as explained above, in addition to the strong influence of the strong pro-Israel lobby amongst Jewish Americans.
Footnote[s]
[1] The Ukrainian death toll is well over 100,000. One estimate puts it as high as 400,000. This makes, military-aged Ukrainian males, even more than the, mostly civilian, 14,000+ Russian dead since January 2014 in the Donbass region, by far, the greatest victims of the conflict.
How Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zilenskyy, the 'peace candiate' of the Ukrainian Presidential election of 21 April 2019, could have, rather than honouring the 2104 Minsk Accords as he promised voters he would, or even just ordering his troops to remain on the defensive, chosen to order his generals to send so many Ukrainians to die in suicidal frontal attacks, remains a mystery. Had Russia dropped leaflets over Kiev that warned Ukrainians of the fate that awaited them at the front, I think likely that most would not have allowed themselves to be taken by Zilenskyy's press-gangs.
