We express our sorrow at the fall today of Damascus, Syria, - a secular democracy - to takfiri terrorists backed by Western powers. They are led by Ahmed Hussein al-Shar'a, commonly known as Abu Mohammad al-Julani. The US listed Al-Juliani as a 'Specially Designated Global Terrorist,' in May 2013, and four years later advertised a $10 million reward for information leading to his capture. Yet, they have funded his long and brutal career, culminating in the leadership of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), and this final takeover of Syria. It was no coincidence that Israeli tanks also crossed Syria's border today. Al-Juliani gets along well with Israel, but is in conflict with moderate Islam.
Democratic Syria and western thieves: In 2014 and again in 2021 President Bashar al-Assad was resoundingly elected in observed democratic elections. In spite of this, his person and government have been continuously slurred and threatened by the western media and politicians, whose aim has been to pillage and dominate the region. As, President Trump said in January 2020, “We’re keeping the oil, we have the oil, the oil is secure, we left troops behind only for the oil.” Yesterday, Assad departed Syria for an uncertain future, likely to protect his family from imminent danger.
Wolves in sheeps clothing: We do not believe in the rehabilitated presentation of this takfiri leader, Abu Mohammad al-Julani, recently promoted in the west and interviewed on CNN by a head-scarfed woman journalist, and as a 'diversity-friendly ‘ Jihadist. We see this as a continuation of attempts to advance Israel, Turkey, and US-NATO's utterly ruthless plot to dominate the region and its assets. Al-Juliani has been courting these western powers and they may now think they have a compliant takfiri bully to quell any resistance to their plans, but al-Juliani probably has ambitions of his own.
Women's rights: Under Bashar al-Assad, women in Syria did not have to wear headscarves and they could go out in public without a chaperone. They were well-educated in a state education system, and held professions and political posts. Imagine their terror now, in the light of recent disastrous outcomes of US interference in Libya and Afghanistan. Consider that, not only America and Europe, but Australia as well, have supported the dismantling of secular democratic Syria in favor of a brutal fundamentalist regime.
Human rights: Having suffered in the horrificl wars since 2011, it is likely that the Syrian people in general will suffer even more as US-NATO and its allies, led by apparently psychopathic regimes, fight over the spoils. Perhaps most shocking has been Turkey's pragmatic playing of all sides against each other in order to retain Idlib and northern Syria. It is hard to imagine Erdogan not wanting all of Syria. Maybe the west underestimates Erdogan, and may yet see him leading his long-cherished dream of an Ottoman-style caliphate, into Europe.
What we sow: At any rate, Europe, and the US, and Australia and much of the world, will now be the destination of millions of terrified Syrians, soon to be followed by more Palestinians, Lebanese, and others in this externally predated, economically-destroyed and war-torn region. And we can blame our leaders for backing terrorism in the region, whilst painting as monsters the leaders they were so intent upon displacing, and ancient civilisations as inherently incompetent.
Syria, our hearts go out to you.
