Lighting and green spaces Speaker Event 27 June Prahran, Victoria
Walk in St Kilda Rd & Environs presents Planet Ark National Tree Day Nature Care Event 2021: "Lighting and Green Spaces - an Expert Panel Presentation on new research and challenges," Sunday 27 June 2021, 2.30pm – 4.30pm, Prahran Mechanics Institute, 39 St Edmonds Rd, Prahran VIC 3181
Planet Ark NTD nature care event: https://treeday.planetark.org/site/10025141
See video and information: https://treeday.planetark.org/research/ and https://treeday.planetark.org/newsroom/audio-video.
The event is free of charge. Note, however, that it is sponsored by Toyota, which, like most corporations, has a history of marketing itself as environmentally friendly, but which actually has a record for environmental damage and fudging reports. See, for instance, Hiroko Tabuchi, "Toyota to Pay a Record Fine for a Decade of Clean Air Act Violations," New York Times, Jan. 14, 2021. Since the mid 1970s, it has become the practice of corporations to link themselves to 'green' organisations and 'green' events, like this one. Sharon Beder has written informatively on this phenomenon, into which climate-change action has breathed new life, in Sharon Beder, Global Spin, Chelsea Green Publishing, 1998. See Sharon Beder

Learn how you can help protect our health & environment for the future
Never before has it been more important to look after our health and well-being and our physical environments.
Our parklands are more valued, more used for their green spaces and treed landscapes and more precious for our health and well-being in the post-March 2020 Covid-world.
Rolling restrictions and lockdowns continue ….
Come and learn from presentations and discussions with:
Sean W Cain, Associate Professor of Psychology, Monash University, who is an internationally recognised expert in circadian rhythms and effects of artificial lighting.
Dr Greg Moore, Director of the National Trust of Australia (Vic.) Significant Tree Committee, formerly Director of Burnley College, who will consider the damaging impact on trees of paving and built environments in parklands and the effects of artificial lighting on tree health: ‘Public Green Spaces, Surfaces and Lighting’.
Dr Barry Clark, whose background is in engineering, physics, applied optics and vision research and who is a member of the Astronomical Society of Victoria Inc. (ASV) and the Victorian Chapter of the International Dark-Sky Association: ‘Outdoor lighting strategy needs to be based on facts, not myths’.
Learn how you can get involved in nature care, healthy practices and greening in your home and environs and make a difference to your health and well-being, to the local environment and to heritage places & parks.
See You There!
