Petition for Public Apology (or Resignation) by ABC MD for Misconduct of Carbon Tax Debate

Please sign the petition here: Background The ABC:
  • Knows Government data from 1991 to 2011 showed almost perfect correlation between 32% fossil fuel based emissions growth and 32% population growth
  • Had access to annual updates of emissions data since 1990
  • Reported that the proposed Carbon Tax could reduce "emissions" by 60 million tonnes between 2011 and 2020
  • Never mentioned a predicted increase (based on past trends) of over 90 million tonnes between 2011 and 2020 based on Australia’s extreme population growth alone
  • Never addressed Population Growth Management as a 2013 Federal Election issue, despite polling that rated it as a Top 15 Federal Election Issue
  • Never addressed, in its Carbon Tax Debate, repeated polling showing over 50% of Australians are concerned about the rate of population growth.
Any mention of population growth in the context of the "Carbon Tax Debate" would have challenged the logic of a Carbon Tax that was not combined with a reduced rate of population growth. As Government has no policy to slow population growth, the truth about the primary cause of emissions growth could have significantly weakened the pro-Carbon Tax argument. In 2012 Australia's rate of population growth was roughly 4 times the OECD country average. Australia's recent population growth is exceeded only by those of autocratic regimes - mostly in underdeveloped areas of Africa (Ref: ABS, UN and CIA World Factbook Data). The Carbon Tax legislation was passed in 2011 and the new Government is now attempting to repeal the legislation. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Petition This petition calls for a Public Apology (or Resignation) of the ABC's CEO for actions against the public interest. The ABC has not broadcast in its "Carbon Tax Debate":
  • The correlation between Australia’s fossil fuel based emissions growth and population growth. Both rose roughly 32% from 1991 to 2011
  • That Australia’s fossil fuel based emissions growth far exceeds medium term reduction targets for the Carbon Tax (or any other proposed scheme). Australia's per capita emissions and population growth rate are the highest in the so-called “Developed” world
  • Key facts that could inform and alter public opinion about both the Carbon Tax and Population Growth
This has made a mockery of 5+ years of public policy debate. Emissions Management has been dumbed down into the ABC-branded “Carbon Tax Debate”. Omitting such information in a country with a stable population would be understandable. In Australia it is illegitimate pro-Population Growth and pro-Carbon Tax bias. The ABC has also not investigated whether adverse trends in the economy are directly linked to rapid population growth and mass migration of relatively wealthy people. ABS statistics provide compelling support for this. Over 20,000 children die unnecessarily each day in the developing world, partly due to lack of philanthropic aid. Australia becomes increasingly unable to provide such aid, to those people and to refugees, if its own economy deteriorates. Despite repeated complaints the ABC has denied, and remains unaccountable for, bias. They need to be called to account for acting against the public interest, and for breach of the ABC Code of Practice.
