How many people understand all this? I met someone the other day who is on a board providing housing for the homeless and women fleeing domestic danger. Without getting too political, I gleaned from her that she felt that we had an obligation to refugees in this context. In other words that easing the housing crisis in Australia had to be balanced against the fulfilment of  Australia's international obligations to refugees from other countries.  She obviously did not realise what a tiny proportion of the influx of immigrants each year is due to refugees.
