Over the past few years, the two major parties have combined, with little resistance from the Greens, or the Teals, to rigidly restrict new political candidates from running. Seeing this danger, three new political organisations formed with the intention of platforming and promoting new independent candidates and political movements. These were Democracy First, Fusion, and the Australian Progressives. In the 2025 election the two major parties combined to lock out even more new people by legally restricting their funding, whilst increasing funding for established parties. Already, as described by Dunkley candidate, Andrew Gatley, many independents have had to drop out of the elections because the rules have changed. Those rules require Independents to find 100 nominators in their electorate within 10 days of registering. Try it. It isn't easy. Because Fusion formed just in time, it is now an 'established' Political Party. Independent or alternative candidates can assemble under its wing as "Fusion Candidates." In this way, they have much better chances of actually achieving candidature, whilst keeping their policies intact - because Fusion is basically there to promote alternatives to the dominant parties. After that, Fusion candidates need help to raise their voices above the massively corporate funded mainstream media clamor for the Duopoly Plus. Fusion is now trying to get people to help them promote these political alternatives to the Lib-Lab-Green-Teal functional alliance. Don't kid yourself this is easy. Maybe you would like to help. Australia needs a big thirdparty to renovate our democracy and reform our public institutions
In the video below, Fusion talks about policy questions and issues. You may not agree with all of them, but, if you are reading this, you certainly don't want what the Liberal Party, the Labor Party, the Greens and the Teals are offering - which is more of the same. By supporting Fusion, you help Australians get to hear about alternatives. The important point is that Fusion is a very broad church so, by supporting new voices under their umbrella, Australia has some chance to escape from the established political gridlines.
Democracy First writes about the alliance: "We are pleased to announce that Democracy First has entered into an alliance with two parties - Fusion and Australian Progressives - for the coming election. Non-ideological, not Left or Right, oriented to problem-solving and consensus. Under the alliance, DemocracyFirst will field a team of Senate candidates in 5 of the 6 states under the Fusion banner, and a team of lower house candidates. The Alliance will field candidates in SA and in every lowerhouse seat. Australia needs a big thirdparty to renovate our democracy and reform our public institutions. We feel our core values of Democracy First fit alongside the Fusion party. #Fusion: www.fusionparty.org.au Fusion's mission is to collaborate widely throughout society, to deeply explore underlying issues, and to build consensus for long-term solutions, whilst empowering citizens, promoting rights and freedoms—including in the digital spaces that are now part of our everyday lives. We feel this combined effort will maximize our capacity to make a real difference in Australian Politics & for people everywhere. "We don’t identify as ‘left’ or ‘right’ – we’re about moving forward, ie. PROGRESS, underpinned by principles and values. We could be seen as the sensiblecentre, motivated by principles and evidence, not ideology. We are tired of political gameplaying, and the detrimental impact of polarisation and opposition for opposition’s sake. We see a future where elected MPs - from major parties, minor parties, and independents – work together...."
