Cost of new oil sources concealed, leading to naive business cases like EastWest Link

This article was originally written on 24 Mar 2014, but, mistakenly not published. As the East West Link tollway scam remains a critical issue in the the lead-up to the Victorian state elections of 29 November 2014, and with the Victorian state Labor Party conference being held today this it has been temporarily posted to the top of the first page of Candobetter with the 'sticky' bit having been turned on.

Freeways and tollways are a thing of the past due to real trends in fuel and energy costs, but the business community and most governments are very poorly educated in real energy and material trends. For instance, the business case for the notorious EastWest Link relies on a ridiculous idea that petrol costs will drop over time, which itself relies on, among other things, reports of uncosted shale oil recovery. This is Hillbilly economics. See also "SEITA tollway using old data on oil prices"
