Alliance for death (aka “Life”)

The growth lobby appears in new guises every day, constantly trying to make itself out to be the good guy. Now a new alliance of religious groups pretends we can go on growing indefinitely, the same way that the Citizens Electoral Lobby, the Australian Property Council, and the Prime Minister of Australia do. But Tim Murray asks, "If each one of God’s 214,000 miracles born each day is precious, what of the tens or hundreds of thousands of non human life forms that are murdered that day by our expansion? Yes, 100 species are lost each day. But many more life forms are killed than that each day. How many? Who knows? Each and every day we are breeding our life support system into the ground."

With friends like DSE and Parks Victoria, who needs wildlife enemies in the Pines (Victoria)?

Through incompetence and neglect 110 ha which was recently added to the Pines Flora and Fauna reserve was mismanaged by Parks Victoria and Department of Sustainability Victoria to the point where nearly all the species it contained have become extinct. Now this land is due to be separated by a huge tollway from the rest of the reserve, despite many bitter protests and submissions from residents and other concerned people, whose hearts are nearly broken. Australia's appalling conservation record will be exacerbated by climate change

Australia has the worst record of extinctions of any country having exterminated one third of its wildlife in just 200 years. The climate is a crucial factor in determining where animals and plants live and reproduce, and the types of ecosystems they form. Climate change spells disaster for the world's plants and animals, many of which are already suffering from a loss of habitat, pollution and over-exploitation.

Australia possibly has the worst extinction record on Earth!

“Over the past 50 years, humans have changed ecosystems more rapidly and extensively than in any comparable period of time in human history. This has resulted in a substantial and largely irreversible loss in the diversity of life on Earth”
Millennium Ecosystem Assessment Report (2005)

Human destiny revisited ?

An Italian evolutionary meta-theory says planetary health depends on humans and that humans will in the future free themselves from the unbearable weight of the world by stopping reproducing. "Si spegne, signori, si chiude” Review by Marisa Cohen

Development project threatens second largest Koala Colony in Tweed Shire

As the plight of Koalas injured and killed in Victoria's recent bushfires move people across the globe to act to save the Koala, now predicted to become extinct by 2020, a rare and relatively intact Koala colony in Northern New South Wales is threatened by a massive residential development. There are estimated to be less than 100,000 koalas remaining in Australia, considerably less due to the recent disastrous Victorian bush fires and Queensland floods.

Urgent moratorium on ALL AUSTRALIAN NATIVE ANIMAL KILLING needed (due to fires/floods)

There are far too many threats to our native animals' existence. The recent bushfires and floods have decimated wildlife in two states. It's time for our government to change its policy of giving licences to kill 'protected' wildlife and regarding them as 'renewable resources to harvest sustainably.' We call for a moratorium on the killing of ALL Australian native animals. Australia has the worst record in the world of wildlife extinctions. Time to change our attitude and our laws before we lose them all. Without biodiversity we will perish.

Grave loss of native fauna on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia

In 1845 the Mornington Peninsula was thick with wildlife: herds of kangaroos, wombats, wallabies, many echidnas and koalas and glorious birds, all unused to man and quite tame and inquisitive. ...wonderful trees, abundance of silver wattles, when in blossom, gilded the country and filled the air deliciously with their sweetness. Now population growth is turning the Peninsula into a desert. Research and graphs by Malcolm Legg and Hans Brunner.
