Nuclear power, totalitarian spin and overpopulation in Australia

Nuclear power is promoted by the growth lobby as an investment opportunity which will provide employment, international importance, and new industries. Rationales offered to the public are the [manufactured] imperative to provide power for projected (politically engineered) population growth and the desirability of off-setting greenhouse gas contributions from coal-fired electricity and coal exports. (Australia is the world’s largest coal exporter.) Australian planning is dominated by what the corporate sector wants. There are many indications that public sector scientists are expected to support private, corporate research and development rather than leading with public research responding to public need, which might result in moderation rather than accelerated consumption. Let's look more closely at this 'investment opportunity'. Normalising endless immigration and coupling it to nuclear power in Oz

Rudd recently said that Australia "will continue to be a nation of immigrants into the future." This remark prompted discussion on environmental lists about the PM's brain-box or sincerity because people wonder if he seriously contemplates indefinite exponential immigration. In fact there has been a barrage of similar material on the media from various officially anointed 'authorities', coinciding with Kelvin Thomson's recent criticism of government engineered population growth. The growth lobby is also taking advantage of the situation to market nuclear power as an inevitable, with no more interest in whether we can afford it than they have shown in the other costs to the public of their high immigration fetish.See also: "Nuclear power, totalitarian spin and overpopulation in Australia", "Bernard Salt on the Population 'debate'> and See also "Ziggy Switkowski, Population Numbers and Nuclear in the Australian"

Letter to Australian Climate Minister Penny Wong re her claims about delinking growth from emissions

When the ABC put to her that a population trending to grow by 65% to a level of 35m people by 2035 was contradictory to a target of reducing Australian carbon emissions by 60% in the same time period, Penny Wong replied, incredibly, that we have to 'delink our levels of carbon pollution from economic growth and population growth, not try to reduce population. She did not say whether we would do this by using magic or religion, but a morbid fascination with my own survival, not to say scientific curiosity, has prompted me to write to her and ask for details. 'Interview' with Paul Kelly yet more free ABC advertising for Rupert Murdoch

The Murdoch press promotion of Paul Kelly's misnamed book The March of Patriots, chronicling the Prime Ministerships of Paul Keating and the early years of John Howard's, has been supplemented, at taxpayers' expense, by Brisbane ABC local radio stations Conversations program.

DACs 2: Highlights: Macedon Member Duncan makes bizarre statements about population growth in Victoria

Labor Government member, Ms Joanne Duncan, described Melbourne as having to choose between sprawl or unpopular high density housing. Then she said, "Another option is to somehow put a moratorium on any population increase and have all manner of totalitarian measures to reach that end. All of those are completely unacceptable, so we will continue to have population growth." In fact population growth would slow down of its own accord, with no coertion, if the government simply stopped forcing up the immigration rate and giving out baby bonuses. Democracy is decreasing with population increase, yet Ms Duncan pretends that to allow the population to grow or stabilise or shrink at its natural pace would somehow require totalitarianism. What's the story here?

Why propaganda trumps truth

Paul Craig Roberts explains how the 9/11 Truth Movement faces enormous difficulty having many ordinary Americans accept the overwhelming evidence that disproves the official account of 9/11.

Pornography and the Celebrity Bestiality Report - Economic trends today

Pornography is not just about getting naked, or having sex, or even recording, depicting or describing it. It requires an element of commerce. Lots of people think they can get rich from it, and some very big household-name corporations have diversified into this area, including GMH and the Murdoch Press. Perhaps they hope to have a pornography-led recovery from the global financial crisis? Anyway, it seems like just about everyone is involved, whether they like it or not...

Edgars Creek: Kelvin Thomson defends public land, biodiverse CO2 sink

"VicRoads should hand over the land to Moreland City Council free-of charge on the proviso that it will be maintained as public open space." (Kelvin Thomson) Growth-lobby-friendly VicRoads claims it must sell 10 ha of rare riparian land in overpopulated and traffic-choked Coburg at market value under State Government policy. It it does this will be yet tragic cost of unwanted population growth, driven by the Brumby Government. A Victorian Parliamentary inquiry last year found that important open space and Crown Land is often sold off to developers for the highest price, with little consideration to the long term community and environmental ramifications (Fyffe 2009). Lights out for democracy - privatisation of essential services in Victoria

Victoria is outsourcing its essential services for competitive profit and marketing taxpayer-funded 'gifts' to taxpayers as if they were 'free'. The activities of the sector are to be monitored - but only economically - by a new body calledThe Essential Services Commission - which apparently approves of these 'free' gifts. Would you trust people with so little concern for democracy? A concerned citizen expresses her disgust at the whole scammy system, marketed by naive young people cold-calling customers at home. Comment inside from Essential Services Commission

Tax-deductibility, Environmental Groups & NGOs

A few years ago the government overhauled its definition of tax-deductible groups and effectively outlawed independent political activism in tax-deductible environmental (and other) groups. What the government was saying was, 'We are not going to fund our potential enemies' political campaigns.'

This was the point where a lot of organisations should probably have decided to ditch their tax-deductibility status because our environment and wildlife protection are so threatened by government-supported corporate development that environmental activism generally requires opposition to most government programs.

Free Press: Where do you go when Government and the Media don't care?

Disappointed in government departments and ministers, environmental organisations and other NGOs often try to take their cause to the mainstream press. But this is usually just as problematic in the end. Why? See also: Tax-deductibility and Environmental Groups & NGOs

RSPCA rubber-stamp in Majura Kangaroo kills unworthy of this organisation's aims

Professor Steve Garlick writes that he has received a disturbingly poor account from the RSPCA of their supervision of the mass killing of kangaroos in the ACT.

Report on the Victorian Transport Infrastructure Conference

Full steam ahead. Vast increase in population and infrastructure. Vast decrease in democracy. There is no plan B. Minister Pallas assured the audience they would secure the necessary environmental approvals/considerations. The EES is not a yes or no process. International migration levels never seen before...address future labour force. Long term drivers - migration. Health infrastructure needed - maternity wards. Taxpayers to bail-out developers to continue even more malignant growth. Hastings doomed according to plan.

Melbourne residents held to ransom on water

Do Melbourne residents have the option of refusing to pay higher water charges? - No.
Did Melbourne residents have the right to refuse population growth in their area? - No.
The State has purposefully engineered a situation where organisations beyond electoral control have gained control over water delivery and the state has purposefully increased demand for water by forcibly increasing population. This is the essence of corporate government. Out of reach of democracy.

Bernard Salt and Murdoch press cook up recipe for invasion

Surrender Australia to overpopulation now, argues "demographer" and investment spotter Bernard Salt, rather than have China lean on us later to take in its millions! (Australian, April 30th, "No room to be smug as population peaks"). Mark Simpson has had enough of this beating on the "yellow peril" racist drum.

Brisbane ABC suppresses alternative candidates in state elections despite listener dismay with major parties

Brisbane's local ABC radio station 612 disregarded its own listeners' expressed dissatisfaction with both the major parties when, during the 2009 Queensland state elections, it refused any air time to local independent candidates. Instead, virtually all the available time was given over to candidates from the governing Labor Party or the Opposition Liberal National Party, who even according to the ABC's own listeners, provided little useful information.

Courier Mail, ABC back Department of Main Roads land grab

On 25 March Madonna King, the morning presenter of Brisbane's local ABC radio station gave her listeners a small glimpse of how the Queensland Government's frenzy of road construction is destroying the lives of many ordinary citizens. However, the case of those standing up to the Government was undermined when she stated that 'you can't stop progress', a view which curiously echoes what was stated in the previous day's editorial in the Courier Mail, which her husband is editor of.

Polluters, Pollies or Pettifoggery?

During the same month, on 25 February, Dennis Jensen kneecapped his leader by issuing a press release denying that humans are causing climate change, and pointed to Adolf Hitler as an example of how scientists can be wrong. “So, where is this leading to?” readers may ask. Well it’s all to do with the pestilence of propaganda.

The Sheahans and Mitchell Shire Council - Fire-breakers or law-breakers?

Andrew Bolt's story, "Green rules, black forests" is one of many mainstream media sources to keep alive the legend of the brave Sheehans' fight for justice and safety against their philistine greenie neighbours. But there is even more to that story than the press have so-far published. Read on...

Heatwave-hundreds dead - Government population policy made water & power shortages worse

The ministers, planners and economists involved in overshooting our power and water supply should be suspended from employment and publicly placed on trial for gross negligence towards Victorians' welfare, contributing to death and suffering.

Politically addicted to immigration - ALP rejects push for migration rate cut

"Can someone get Gillard to specify where the skills shortage is now that the resources industry and construction industry are beginning to majorly shed jobs?"

Update: Immigration Minister Chris Evans 'expects' skilled immigration numbers to drop 'next year' due to the global economic crisis. See "Australia to cut skilled immigration" in the Age of 23 Feb 09

Murdoch media contradicts itself on immigration

Rupert Murdoch never misses an opportunity to loudly preach to his captive Australian audience his message that this country must continue its rapid immigration-driven population growth. However, even his own media outlets have implicitly acknowledged that because governments have followed this very advice in the past, England and even parts of Australia have become intolerably overcrowded.

Victorian Bush-fires: ABC 7.30 Report ignores facts, creates scapegoats

Bodies are still being found, the Royal Commission still has no terms of reference and yet the ABC is pointing the finger at the environment movement and the Greens! Friday night's 7.30 Report failed to show that the most 'managed' forests were the worst hit, instead giving the opposite, wrong impression and blaming 'greens'.

From a Victorian bush-fire correspondent:

Flattr this

Anyone with knowledge of the areas affected most by the fires who heard the 7.30 report on fire Friday night (13 Feb '09) would have to be on blood pressure medication now.

Responding to incorrect fire information by joining the debate

Entering the bushfire debate can be a useful, educational experience. These fires provide a great opportunity for conservation advancement. We must challenge the misinformation from the mainstream media. (Article by Paul.)

Comments on recent fire-management in bush-fire areas

This is a short sharp account of the various kinds of forests affected in the fires, locations, their prior fire management, and the impact of this. It concludes succinctly with observations about disturbed landscapes.

Reproductive liberty and ecological meltdown - response to Melanie Phillips article

No Melanie, the 'humanitarian' vision is better served by promoting sensible policies that promote the need for population stabilisation and reduction before it is too late. Governments increasingly intervene in people’s lives to direct behaviour in many ways – with laws, speed cameras, taxes and sanctions. What is more fundamental than preserving the future of our planet? See also Melanie Phillips takes the offensive for large families where no offense was offered

Melanie Phillips takes the offensive for large families where no offense was offered

Melanie Phillips accuses environmentalists who advocate small populations as "innately totalitarian", like "Stalin to Hitler to Mao." But Hitler gave out prizes to women who had the biggest families and Mao said that "Every child that is born has two hands to feed himself." Mao caused overpopulation in China. Hitler wanted space for Germany's population to grow. Is Melanie Phillips a professional ignoramus? See also Reproductive liberty and ecological meltdown
